HIGHLIGHTS The deal was meant to have been the centrepiece bilateral agreement signed during Modi’s visit “We want a better visa system. If they are offering it to the Chinese, why not to Indians?” a senior Indian high commission official said Source

Visa woes: UK denying thousands of Indian workers right to work citing miscellaneous errors in filing tax-returns

While Indian citizens settled in the United States grapple with President Donald Trump's visa restrictions, with the issue getting significant media attention, another country has been denying the right to live and work to its foreign working professionals and immigrants without much notice. The United Kingdom, over the past few months, has made certain changes to make it difficult for immigrants to obtain an Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or a permanent residency status. Source

The night-vision surveillance camera in the theatre captured the video footage of the man, flanked by a middle-aged woman on his right and a minor girl on his left, engaging in sexual acts with both. The theatre owner, on finding that it was a case of child abuse, approached the Childline on April 25 with the videotape. The Childline identified the man with the help of the Motor Vehicle Department, and handed over the tape to the police on April 26. However, the police failed to register any case against the man who abused the girl. The police also did not try to identify the woman and the girl. Media expose The police swung into action on Saturday when the media exposed the incident. A case was registered and the man, Moideen Kutty from Thrithala, was arrested. Kerala honour killing case: Two cops in custody for having ties with Kevin murder accused

Another ‘honour killing’ in Kerala; this time it lays bare casteism in Kerala Christian community Kevin P Joseph, a 23-year-old man from Nattassery, Kottayam, Kerala married Neenu Chacko, a 21-year-old Syrian Catholic Christian woman from Thenmala, Kollam, Kerala, Friday, May 25. The boy was a Dalit Christian, a lower caste, while the woman belonged to what is perceived as an 'upper class' among Kerala Christians. Affront to dignity Neenu’s family apparently found it an affront to their dignity and social position as Kevin belonged to a Dalit Christian family. Neenu’s father Chacko John is a Malankara Syrian Catholic, but ironically he himself had broken the rules of his society. He transgressed the boundaries of cast and religion by marrying a woman from Muslim community. Neenu’s mother Rehna was converted to Christianity, but it is obvious that caste and class are thicker than love and faith in Kerala...  https://gulfnews.com/news/asia/india/another-honour-ki

‘Honour killing’ of youth triggers protests in Kerala

Kerala 'honour killing': police cited CM's visit as excuse not to trace my husband, says wife The latest in the string of embarrassments came on Monday when the police found itself in a spot over the troubling question whether its officers, due to an extraneous influence, had hung back from actively pursuing the kidnappers of Kevin, the victim of what is widely perceived to be a honour killing. Earlier this month, the police lost face over the  delay to prosecute a child abuse case  in Edappal in Malappuram despite receiving visual evidence...  http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/kerala/kevins-death-deals-another-blow-to-state-polices-image/article24017865.ece The murder, presumably a case of honour killing, also triggered a huge debate about the State’s actual achievements in social inclusion as the deceased youth, Kevin P. Joseph, belonged to a family of converted Christians and his wife Neenu Chacko, 20, a second year B.Com student, belonged to the family

Kerala honour killing: Not in Marx’s name

23-year-old Kevin P Joseph's murder is a hate crime. Without the protests that followed other such crimes. Is this because he was killed in a Communist, not a saffron state? Kevin came from a family of Dalit Christians. Neenu came from a higher-caste, better-off Christian family. Neither cared much about these differences between them... https://www.dailyo.in/politics/kerala-honour-killing-dalit-christians-kevin-p-joseph-left-right-wing-udf-bjp-hindutva/story/1/24548.html
